OLIVIA WILDE has denied reports that she is set to be unveiled as the new ‘Lara Croft’ for a new ‘Tomb Raider’ movie.

OLIVIA WILDE, the American actress and star of ‘Tron: Legacy’, has not been cast as Lara Craft in a forthcoming ‘Tomb Raider’ reboot, according to her rep who spoke with OnTheRedCarpet.com. Rumours began to circulate on Wednesday (16th February 2011) that Wilde had signed on to play the action hero, famously portrayed by ANGELINA JOLIE in 2001′s ‘Lara Croft: Tomb Raider’ and then in the sequel ‘Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life’. TheFanCarpet.com quoted a source close to the project as saying, “This would be a far darker and more serious Tomb Raider movie, the idea is to get a top director and an intelligent script and make this an empowering character for women as well as a popular one with men”, however, a representative for the actress has since rubbished the reports. The character of Croft first appeared as a protagonist in the 1996 smash-hit video game ‘Tomb Raider’, and she is now recognised by the Guinness World Records as being the “most recognised female video game character”.

Wilde, who recently split from her husband TAO RUSPOLI after eight years of marriage, is set to star in the summer action movie ‘Cowboys & Aliens’ alongside HARRISON FORD and DANAIEL CRAIG. The 26-year-old will also star in ‘Butter’ with HUGH JACKMAN
